Ingredients:

  • 1 cup barnyard millet
  • 1/2 cup split moong dal

  • 1 medium potato, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • 5 cups water

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the millet and moong dal thoroughly. Soak for 10 minutes and drain.
  2. In a pressure cooker, heat ghee and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add asafoetida, grated ginger, and green chilies.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  4. Add carrots, potatoes, green peas, turmeric powder, and salt. Sauté for a few minutes.
  5. Add the millet and moong dal to the cooker. Mix well and add 5 cups of water.
  6. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles until everything is cooked and soft.
  7. Serve hot with a dollop of ghee and pickle.
